About Alex and Jack Wilken

Seattle Boat Works is family owned and operated. Our expertise comes from a combination of actual boat building, education in marine carpentry and cabinetry, underwater boat maintenance and repair as well as many years of cruising North & Central America,  Europe and North Africa.

Boat Building Experience

  • Quality Control and Engineering Manager Westsail Corp 1974 - 1977 (responsible for Westsail 42 Yawl 'Wyntje' delivered to Walter Cronkite)
  • Built tooling and was Manager of Crealock 37 project- first 12 boats-    1977 - 1979 (prior to Pacific Seacraft 37)
  • Manager for Pacific 41 tooling in Taiwan  1979 - 1980
  • Personally built a Kendall 32 (adapted by WIB Crealock from an Atkins design, from a design by Colin Archer. This became the Westsail 32)

Boating Experience

  • USCG (Reserve) First Class Quartermaster 1963-1970
  • Cruised with wife, Arden and eventually 3 children aboard Yamaha 33, Wauquiez Pretorian 35 & Galapagos 50   (French built steel ketch) from 1979 to 2004 in Canada, US, Central America and Mediterranean


Advanced Trainings, Rigging..........

  • Advanced Training in Corrosion and Diving Through Scripps Institute, La Jolla, California 1970
  • With Dave White rigged his sailboat for the original BOC (British Oxygen Corporation) Challenge in 1982, a singlehanded around the world race leaving from Newport, Rhode Island
  • Rigged various boats, including John Carson's Argonaut, for the Singlehanded Transpacific Yacht Race (San Francisco to Honolulu) in 1978 & 1980
